The universe is quite amazing and God created it. When we think of all of the stars, the galaxies, the moon and the ever stretching blue sky with the sun as our source of life, we are all left in awe.
Even in our world, we see the plants and the animals and the insects with their perfect rhythm of life and God created all of it.
Then we look at the human. We look at its form and majesty. We consider the good that one human can do and weigh it against the evil of another. We see ourselves as superior upon this earth and we should know that God created us too.
Think of the celestial spirits, their superior intelligence and power and their ability to transcend space and time and God created them also.
And yet, all of the above is nothing when compared to the Blessed Virgin Mary. In fact, she is the greatest creation by God.
This should cause us to have a moment of reflection. Who is this woman who bore the Eternal Word? Do we find greater awe in man’s creation or the universe or the things in this world? Sadly, the answer is that oftentimes, we do.
But, for a moment, let us consider this Woman from the New Testament, this new Arch of the Covenant, this new Eve.
St. Denys the Areopagite, upon meeting the Blessed Virgin while she was still on earth, had this to say:
“I confess to almighty God, to the mercy of our Saviour and to the glory and majesty of the most holy Virgin-Mother, that being introduced by John into the august presence of the most high Virgin, so great a splendor surrounded me exteriorly and such a delicious perfume embalmed me, that neither my miserable body, nor even my mind, was able to support the sweetness and delight of so great a happiness. My heart melted away and my spirit was overcome and oppressed by the majesty of so much glory. I call to witness the true God, Whose presence I respected in the most holy Virgin, that if thy Divine Lights had not taught me better, I should have believed her to have been the true God Whom we are bound to adore.”
And this is where we must realize just who we are praying to when we pray to Mary. This is when we must consider the power that has been given to her from God. We must realize that she is so close to God that we cannot comprehend her dignity and honor. As St. Bernardine states,
“The greatness and dignity of this Blessed Virgin are such that God alone does, and can, comprehend it."
And yet, she is Our Mother. How happy we ought to be that we have this most powerful woman as our Mother who intercedes for us.
She takes our pitiful prayers and presents them to the Most High. She strives for our salvation at every moment, hoping that we will call upon her in times of trouble, in times of temptation.
She hopes that we call upon her even if we have sinned. She keeps the Justice of God at bay while we are only all deserving of an eternal punishment.
Mary is the greatest creation and she is always there for us.
But now, as this world turns evermore towards darkness, as we are constantly under attacks from outside of the Church but also from within, we need her more than ever. We need the glorious ever-Virgin to come to our aid and supply us with the Graces necessary for eternal salvation.
But, how do we call upon Our Mother? We must listen to her. Time and time again she has told us that she desires us to pray the Rosary daily and that everyone wear the Brown Scapular.
St. Dominic once said, “Through the Rosary and the Scapular, Our Lady will save the world.”
What are we waiting for? Let’s all listen to our Mother and promote the Rosary and the Brown Scapular.
We will not win this war if our heads are down and we are constantly focusing on the sins of others; or, being caught up in the human affairs of this world which are far beyond our ability to change through words or our own efforts.
When we listen to Our Mother, we will finally begin to win. It is time to turn the tide and go on the offensive. It’s time to bring devotion back to Our Lady with her powerful weapons and by doing so, we will be pleasing to Almighty God.
